Just landed
Ok, so we all know I'm not really a cowgirl. But yes, I have found myself living in Texas, on a ranch, married to a man who only wears Wranglers and rides his horse through cows in the pasture. Good enough.
This first week has been an absolute shocker. I was ecstatic that Patrick and I were finally together and yet found myself sobbing uncontrolably that there weren't enough coathangers in the closet for my adorable 1970's frocks. Moving countries is tough- nothing could have prepared me for the emotional upheaval. An Australian living in the US cannot hide in the blissful ignorance of a total alien. Things here are so familiar thanks to the albeit limited television viewing of my childhood; Sesame Street, The Brady Bunch and now particularly, The Beverly Hillbillies have all become reality. This familiarity lulls my brain to false sense of security; I keep expecting everything to be the same... but with a jolt I realise that we're not in Kansas anymore as I find myself battling with a light switch must be pushed UP to turn on.
And yes everyone, that is a COW'S ARSE in the background.
